Over the years, Austin has crystallized its title as Live Music Capital of the World thanks to its thriving music community. Sadly, this title may not hold true for much longer as our music community faces serious problems ranging from affordability and housing issues and an arcane city permitting process to venues shutting down and declining attendance at shows.
In efforts to save Austin music, Mayor Steve Adler introduced the Omnibus Resolution earlier this year which allowed key stakeholders in the music community to share their insight over the course of 90 days. After 10 town hall meetings gathering input from artists, venue owners, music fans/patrons, non-profit organizations, private businesses across districts and genres, we need to keep the conversation going and further discuss possible solutions.
