Quick rant I touched base on www.twitter.com/abetheassassin (shameless plug) today. Why Doesn’t H.A.A.M. (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians) insure or acknowledge Austin djs as musicians? I know we are not playing live musical instruments but most of us are what some would call Turntablists! I am a full time dj and have been for many years relying solely on djing to provide for myself and my family. Meaning when I get sick or can’t work there is no cushion for me financially. I personally know many musicians and can honestly say I work more weekly downtown “gigs” than most band or singer/songwriters. We (djs) are a part of Austin’s entertainment industry just as much if not more than “working” musicians. What are yalls thoughts on this?
