Every night I go out I’ve see multiple women stumble, sprain their ankles or even fall wearing today’s latest high heel fashion. I’m not talking the 1-3 inch range of heels; I’m talking about the 4-6 inch heel or even 7-9 inches off the ground heel due to the platform trend. Seriously, what is up with women trying to imitate giraffes? Are we trying to figure out if the air up there is different?
Believe me, I’m a serious high heel lover. In fact, you will rarely see me out on the town without a pair of heels on. I might even run in the next stampede stiletto race. So I’m a clear supporter of a nice heel, but a heel that compliments you… not the club feet Geisha style steps/stumbling I’m seeing so much of these days.
Just because heel fashion is getting higher and higher doesn’t mean we should join in on the fad. Yes, those heels can be sexy if you’re standing still, but if a shoes purpose is to help us get from one place to another, then how is that going to help?
How do you know if your heels are too damn high?
- If you can’t take two steps without stumbling
- If you’ve lost feeling in your toes and its only 10pm
- If you look like your on stilts or trying out for the circus
- If you are causing yourself or others bodily harm
- If strangers are putting dollars in your outfit
- If the swag in your swagger has become the stutter in your geisha walk
So in an effort to help my fellow ladies decide what heel is best for them… Here are few questions we should all ask ourselves before you leave the house.
When considering 4-6 or 7-9 inch platform heel for the night, please ask yourself:
- Will I need to walk? OR Can I stand still all night where I am going?
- Does my purse or clutch have enough room for band aides, gauze and/or flip flops?
- Am I ok with walking barefoot in the street?
- Do I have a fear of flashing someone when falling down?
- Does my health insurance cover liability for others?
If you have a problem with any of the above, then you need to rethink your heel decision for the night.
Good stuff!
So True and Sooooo Funny 🙂
We call those shoes “sit downs” or “hurtems” lol. If you know that your shoes hurt two minutes after putting them on, then you only wear them to restaurants or venues with guaranteed seating. Otherwise, you will end up walking like all of the blood from your body has pooled in the bottom of your shoe. Your shoes are suppose to accentuate your stride not break down your hobble.
LMAO… Comments on point! I am not even going to front though. I am guilty of wearing high heels that kill my feet. But let's be honest, is there such a thing as comfortable sexy high heels? Mmm… I think not. lol. I am 5'10 but I still can't go without rocking 4 inch heels on a fabulous night. There is nothing like the allure of long legs for added sexiness.
So yes, on an average weekend night, I am standing at about 6'1… But truth be told, I do like to stand above the crowd & the air up there is ind fact different! lol.
To your point tho, when I do wear high heels, I always have a plan:
1. I will not walk more than 2 blocks. I am more than happy to valet parking it, cab it or pedi cab it.
2. I carry a pair of those roll-up slippers so I can switch over if needed – especially at 2am when the drinks have set in!
All that being said, not all high heels are appropriate. And ladies, it does take practice and experience to know what you can handle.
i cannot where high heels. i have bad enough problems with feet, walking, etc. I can't do it. plus, i can be in a pair of flats and my legs would still look delicious…sorry…that's just the way it is 😀
Well said girl!
Word! I strongly agree. I have a huge collection of heels myself but if women buy shoes that they are incapable of wearing gracefully, the truth is, they shouldn’t be wearing them in the first place. Bent knees and slow, robot-like walks aren’t sexy. 🙂
